The northern exit from the motorway tunnel, looking north to Thorndon. This is where you would drive past if you were leaving Wellington, because there is only one way to drive out of Wellington, and that is north. If you went south you would get very wet.

CityLink was originally formed in late 1995 following a Wellington City Council sponsored business initiative to deploy an advanced, low cost communications network to give local business and government enterprises a competitive advantage.
CityLink is staffed by a small team of dedicated professionals, committed to making a difference. CityLink has an established network within Wellington's CBD plus a network within the core Auckland CBD. Recently a network has been started in Christchurch.
The CBD communications network we have built is:
* high bandwidth - built using singlemode fibre-optic cables
* low cost - mostly built overhead on the existing street infrastructure
* open architecture - no proprietary services, protocols or significant restrictions on use
* privately owned by 7 NZ companies, with the active participation of the local city authority
In Wellington: CityLink is currently offering services within over 400 high rise CBD buildings with approx 100+ km of fibre cable installed around the greater CBD. We pass another 300+ buildings with our fibre optic cable.
In Auckland: CityLink is building a fibre based network within the core Auckland CBD. The range of services provided is similar to that already provided within the Wellington CBD.
CityLink's network consists of singlemode fibre to buildings, rolled out in a mesh architecture so there is no over-reliance on one central communications point. The major product groups are:
* Dedicated private circuits
* High-speed connectivity to CityLink's PublicLAN
* Additional services
From these product groups various telecommunications solutions suited to Government, Corporate, SME and even inner city apartment users have been developed.
